The 223rd, the Scandinavian-Canadian Battalion of the Canadian Army

In the Spring of 1916 several of the Falcons players enlisted in the Canadian Army, to go to war in Europe.
After training for a year in Winnipeg and Camp Hughes, they left Winnipeg by train
and then Halifax by ship for England in April 1917.

They had all returned safely to Winnipeg by May 1919, after two years overseas, having played no hockey since March 1917.
